Frequently Asked Questions

What are the bottles made of?
Otterbottles are 100% 18/8 stainless steel inside and out. No BPA, no aluminum, no lining. They are one-wall steel. They are meant to hold water/cold beverages only.

Where are the bottles manufactured?
Otterbottles are manufactured in China. Otterbottle insures quality by performing regular metal testing and lead testing on the exterior paint. In 2007, 47% of the world's steel came from China. As such, the economics for sourcing steel and producing the bottles there is better than anywhere else. To our knowledge (and after extensive research) there are no stainless steel water bottles being produced in North America. In all of our research all stainless steel bottles are being manufactured in China (including Klean Kanteen and Sigg stainless steel)

Is my Otterbottle dishwasher safe?
We do not recommend putting your Otterbottle in the dishwasher. The heat and soap from the dishwasher will eventually compromise the paint on the exterior. To promote the longevity of your Otterbottle, do not put it in the dishwasher. We do not recommend putting the lids in dishwasher as they are a #5 plastic. Over time, the plastic can start to warp.

What is the lid made of?
The lids are made of #5 PP plastic.

Should I be concerned about the paint on the outside?
OBI performs routine paint testing to insure there is no lead in the paint on the exterior. To keep the paint in good condition, do not put your Otterbottle in the dishwasher.

My bottle has a defect, what do I do?
We are striving to create a superior product. If you have any issues with your bottle, please return it to the store of purchase for a full refund within 1 month of purchase. We are happy to return manufacturer defects. Dropping, freezing and any other damage caused to your Otterbottle is not considered a manufacturer defect and as such it can not be returned.

What about those cool new food containers and insulated drink containers?
The insulated drink containers and food containers keep beverages and food hot for 4 to 5 hours. Made of the same 18/8 stainless steel material, the containers are great for lunches and keeping your beverages hot and cold!
Here are a few tips for keeping your Otterbottle container in excellent condition!
- Do not put your OB container in the dishwasher
- Do not microwave
- Do not freeze
- Check to make sure you lid is secure before toting your container
- While your container should not leak, this product is not 100% guaranteed against minor leakage. Please ensure lid is on tight and keep upright.
